Gamblin’s artist’s oil colors are made with only the best ingredients! Allowing for each color to be specially processed in order for the pigment’s natural characteristics to shine through. Which in turn, allows for a range of diversity in texture, undertone, tinting strength, and opacity between colors. Now when you think of the color black, you might assume there’s only one or two variations of black paints. But you’d be wrong!
Gamblin’s artist’s line carries a total of six different black oil paints. Each designed to give oil painters the most amount of freedom and diversity possible. If you want to learn more about the different characteristics that make up each black paint, then be sure to read our other article called “Which Black Paint Is Right For You?”.
But, we’ve only discussed some of the more commonly used black paints and their properties in that article. So what about some of the other black paints, like Chromatic Black? Well for starters, Chromatic Black isn’t made with black pigment! Instead, it’s made by mixing Quinacridone Red, which is a cool red, and Phthalo Emerald, which is a warm green. These two paints are perfect complimentary colors and, when mixed in the right ration, can create a deep, neutral black!
Chromatic Black was designed specifically to give oil painters a neutral black with vibrancy and transparency. It’s especially suitable for those who don’t want a “true” black that will overpower or muddy their other colors while mixing or painting! And with Quinacridone Red and Phthalo Emerald’s naturally transparent properties, this black is perfect for mixing with other transparent colors! Simply put, Chromatic Black is the best mixing black available for mixing!
